Groton is located between the major metropolises of New York and Boston, making it a convenient New England vacation destination. On the shores of the Thames River and just a few miles from Long Island Sound, Groton offers a number of outdoor activities and attractions, and an annual festival. Bluff Point State Park encompasses over 800 acres of peninsular land and offers prime hiking, biking and shell fishing opportunities. Visitors enjoy Groton's attractions, including Project Oceanology, an interactive oceanographic expedition that educates passengers on the aquatic environment while aboard a floating lab. The U.S. Navy Submarine Force Museum is a popular destination in Groton, as it is home to one of the finest collections of submarine documents, photographs and artifacts in the world. Every June Groton celebrates Greenway's River Festival, which commemorates the Nashua River and features live entertainment, cardboard canoe races and crafts.
